The Samsung Focus Flash is an assuming smartphone. It has the 1.4GHz Snapdragon, the Mango, and its 3.7-inch Super AMOLED display but it has been struggling in the market under the shadows of the Focus S.

Hardware

The Samsung Focus Flash feels nice when you hold it given that most of its body is made of plastic with a metal back portion that completes the premium looks. It is not the thinnest but just right at 0.41 inch. The rounded trapezoidal profile makes the grip natural with just enough curve to cradle it on your palm.

On the upper portion of the metal is the 5 megapixel camera paired with an LED flash and its speaker phone. Each side of the phone has some form of button or port. The designs of the button does not allow it to travel much when pressed but they are quite sturdy and clicky.

Performance

The second gen Snapdragon coming with an Adreno 205 GPU might be a tad slow compared to other smartphones like the iPhone 4S. The Mango runs smoothly without any hiccups and the Focus Flash did well in several smartphone bechmarks.

The battery life though can be improved. You can use it heavily with texting, calling, or web browsing but also expect to charge it everyday.

Software

On the end of the software, Mango is still Mango for the Samsung Focus Flash. The mobile operating system from Microsoft still hat its sync support and notifications so you can expect Samsung and phone operators to inject some of their own apps and wares.

Verdict

The Focus Flash will not beg for attention but it is also not designed to please the hardcore gadget fanatics. This smartphone is for the less demanding phone users who simply checks emails, update their social pages, and browses the web.

The smart phone is the latest in communication technology since it allows you to do a lot more than just talk. There are all kinds of applications available for the modern smart phone that makes them incredibly useful, providing you choose the right one. While some smart phones are better than others it is important to keep in mind that they all have their advantages and disadvantages. When comparing smart phones it is important that you keep in mind how you intend to use it so that you get the right for you.

Motorola Droid

Widely regarded as the best smart phone on the market the Droid has excellent call quality and the highest resolution screen available. The other positives are that it has a long talk time and it includes Google’s navigation app which means it can be used in place of a vehicle navigation device. The disadvantages are that it has no bluetooth voice dialing, the camera isn’t great and many people don’t like the keyboard. The Droid is arguably the most functional smart phone available, but you will have to dig around a little bit to find everything.

Blackberry Bold 9700

This is the latest version of Research in Motions popular Blackberry and it is a significant improvement over the previous versions. The Bold 9700 is more compact than the earlier Blackberries. The advantages of the Bold are that it offers excellent call quality, has a large vibrant display, and a keyboard that is easy to use. The disadvantages are that it has no touch screen and it’s operating system seems a little bit dated by comparison to some of it’s competitors. It is ideally suited to people who are looking for a smart phone primarily for it’s use in communication, and if you visit phones4u today, you’ll even get an extra discount on the 9700.

WebOS Palm Pre Plus

The Palm Pre Plus has doubled the memory of the previous version of the phone which makes it better at multi-tasking than just about any other smart phone on the market. There is also a feature called Synergy that makes multi-tasking easier. The Palm Pre Plus also offers the ability to charge the phone inductively. The disadvantages are that there is a short battery life and there are not as many apps available as there are for some other smart phones, however new ones are being added all the time. As the Palm Pre Plus becomes more and more popular, the number of apps should rival those their competitors.

The Palm Pre Plus was introduced at the start of the year during the CES 2010. This smartphone is a jack up version of the Palm Pre which features some restyling including a reworked keyboard that gives the Palm Pre Plus a better feel and look.

Design

You will not really notice much difference between the Palm Pre Plus and its older sibling the Palm pre. It still has a slider configuration and the overall pebblelike shape. It also highlights a 3.1-inch multitouch HVGA screen.

Some vital changes though include the removal of the center knob. The function is now integrated with the gesture area giving the Palm Pre Plus a classier look.

We still find the keyboard a bit small but it gets a lot of improvement if you compare it to the gummy feel of the keyboard of the Palm Pre. You will definitely find the keyboard of the Palm Pre Plus a lot easier to use when texting or encoding. The slide of the phone also now gets a more solid glide and the phone is a lot more stable when closed without the rickety feel.

Another big change is the inductive feature of the back cover. So once you pull it out of the box, its ready for that Touchstone.

Performance

The Palm Pre Plus comes with the Palm WebOS 1.3.5.1. When we tested this device, we encountered some voice distortion but the call quality was good overall.

The picture quality is also impressive but we might find it more exciting when the edit and video recording features come in. The talk time of the Palm Pre Plus is expected to be around 5.5 hours with a standby time of around 14.5 days.

The cool thing about the OWLE iPhone Video Mount is that this particular device is made from anodized aluminum and comes with a standard 37mm lens, a 0.45X wide angle/macro combination with a mini boom microphone.

The OWLE iPhone Video Mount is actually pretty cheap as well – at only $129.00, the OWLE iPhone Video Mount is awesome if you record a lot of videos!
